Hill, Heel, Heal, He’ll

Our girl continues to get better every day. Last Thursday she had her remaining drains removed (day 9) and was praised by the doctors and nurses for the work she put in to get there. Apparently, only one other patient in their patient history had achieved such status. So technically she shares the record. That’s Sonja in a nut shell. Too busy focusing on healing to give much attention to the parts that distract her from her goal. At best she’ll let me know she has a dull pain, steady but dull. Which means the pain is tolerable until it lights her up. She just finds it easier to average the two experiences out. That being said healing is underway. I know this because my honey do list from Miss Bossy Britches seems to be getting longer. 😜
So I’ve developed a way to define her stages of healing.
1st stage, “Hilling”. Freak out a little bit (a lot on the inside). Then get her mind set on climbing the hill in front of us.
2nd stage, “Heeling”. Absolutely be blown away with immediate support from people having direct and indirect experiences. Then feeling like a heel you weren’t aware enough to have been there for all of them through their journey.
3rd stage, “Healing”. Contrary to my simple mind. It’s not always easy or something that just happens. To heal properly and efficiently, it has to be intentional and requires real work.
4th stage, “He’lling”. For me, it’s secretly a welcome frustration when our girl signs me up for another chore, or voluntold me. He’ll do this or he’ll do that, just means she ain’t waitin around on cancer no more. Like I said her healing is underway. Have I mentioned how tough our girl is.
Healing vibes being sent
